The tour begins from the meeting point (either from your accommodation or from anywhere you wish). Our first stop is at ancient Olympia where you can marvel at the temple of Zeus dating back to 450 BC, Hera temple from 650 BC and Olympia Stadium a sacred place where ancient Greeks dedicated their sports events to god Zeus. In the same area lies Pierre de Coubertin Monument. Coubertin was a French pedagogue and historian as well as the founder of the modern Olympic Games. Additionally, there is the ancient Gymnasium, a huge structure of the 2nd century BC which, unfortunately, does not remain intact to date. Filippi temple of the sacred Altis site is another sight on the western part of Hera temple, the only circular structure in ancient Olympia. We will also be paying a visit to the ancient Olympia museum which is one of the most significant museums in Greece with Archaeological findings of the area such as Hermes of Praxiteles a statue dating back to 340 BC, depicting the young God Hermes holding the infant god Dionysus in his hands. After our visit to the museum there will be plenty of time to sample traditional Greek food at a tavern. Then we will be getting back to your accommodation.
